You are not going to simply think your way into being rich, but if you think about the world incorrectly you will always be poor.
It all starts in the mind. Every movement you make from the typing in your finger tips to the words of your lips starts in the mind. The thoughts that you have are what create the world around you.
The crazy thing is that you can shape the world you live in. Has anyone ever told you that you are that powerful? It is true.
- Why do they call some people optimists and others pessimists?
- Don’t you know that person whose smile lights up the room?
- Are you really friends with guy that can’t see how good he has it and is constantly miserable?
- What is really the difference between them?
Mindset
The way you choose to look at the world shapes the world you see. And yes, you can choose. That doesn’t make it easy to do but it is an option.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not advocating blind upbeat acceptance of the world either. Things suck some times. That happens, it is reality. But I believe that the optimist forces themselves to see past the immediate situation for the opportunity for greatness.
Let’s say that you just went through a break up with someone you really cared about. That sucks. Truly, it can hurt heart and soul. Actually, there is science that indicates break ups cause mental pain that literally translates to physical pain because it is triggering the same parts of the brain. Heartbreak, a real thing.
So, let’s say that happens, it is ok to feel badly about it. We’ve all been there.
But for the optimist there is something that says, well I am at least grateful to have been happy for as long as that lasted. I am grateful because I learned something about me.
I willingly accept that is over and now I have more time for real estate investing.
Ah, yes, more time! It is the silver lining to cloudy days ahead. Ok, you say to yourself, this isn’t my dating advice blog, get to the investing.
Well, there is a practicality to optimism as well.
- What if I met with sellers for the first time EXPECTING them to like me?
- What if I put in offers with the confidence that things will work out in the end?
- What if I treat people with the belief we are on the same team?
- What happens to your business when you expect the best?
How could that NOT help your business!?
What if through your thoughts and actions you treated tenants as if you knew in your heart they would take care of the property? The funny thing about people is that most of the time they react to you the way you expect them to. Treat people with respect and you will receive it. Be fair and cultivate fairness in return.
This expectation is communicated through our words, but more importantly on a subconscious level through our body language. Body language makes up the majority of our communication. That topic will be covered soon in a series of posts!
People have certain psychological needs. One of the major ones is certainty that things will be ok. The other one is uncertainty. That uncertainty however is more like possibility of a better future.
You can call that hope.
Optimistic people carry that torch of hope. It is a light in the darkness whose warmth draws all to it.
Stay tuned because in the next post we will discover how to train your brain to see the glass half full.
